Teaching Online Safety

Internet safety is one aspect that we did not cover in this course.  It is one of the most important topics that elementary, middle, and high school students need to know about - how can they protect themselves on the Internet.  You will create a presentation using an online tool teaching tips on Interent Safety.

Create an an Internet Safety Presentation.  You may utilize Glogster, Notaland, KerPoof, COMIX, etc.  You will create your presentation on one of these websites - BE CREATIVE!!!!  If you have another idea for sharing/spreading Interent Safety - by all means use it.   If you use notaland you can use multiple pages - have one topic per page for example.  You are creating a simple presentation with pictures, words, you can have links to games, etc on Internet Safety.  But you must have useful information on your project.

I will eventually post these on the main school's webpage.

Choose a focus or just be general presentation - for example Safety on Social Networking or be general - cover topics such as setting passwords, using avatars vs personal picture, using your real name, etc.  Use pictures, wordle, facts, etc.  These may be shared with elementary and middle school students so you can focus your project on that age group or high school age - your choice.  You have today and tomorrow to complete this.  Please put some thought into your project - DO RESEARCH.  You can work with one other person if you are using Notaland, otherwise by yourself.  You could even make a video using the camera in the middle room.

When you finish your final - you will create a post and add a link to the Internet Safety site.  You will also need to create a voki that introduces your topic (again see 3o's classes if you are confused on what I am talking about).  Copy the code into this post.

Title - catchy

May work with partner or by yourself if using Notaland, but you must stay in your seat.

Utilize various websites - some websites are listed below.

Add- games, etc.  Links.  Worksheets.  Tips

BELOW ARE SOME LINKS YOU CAN UTILIZE, however search for your own as well.  You should not get finished today.  You have another project to complete tomorrow - so really focus on this project.

  • Make an animated movie (really! it's easy!)
  • Earn Koins which you can trade for fun things in the Kerpoof Store
  • Make a printed card, t-shirt, or mug
  • Tell a story
  • Make a drawing
  • Vote on the movies, stories, and drawings that other people have made
Check out our What's New and How-To pages to learn more about what you can do with Kerpoof. Kerpoof doesn't come with a manual or a directory or a map. If we've done our job right, then finding your way to the various nooks and crannies of Kerpoof will be half the fun.
In addition to being a lot of fun, Kerpoof has many educational uses. Visit our educator page (with ideas and lesson plans for how to use Kerpoof) or read our flyer for educators if you are in a hurry but want to learn more.

                    WHAT ARE WORD CLOUDS?

A word cloud is an attractive arrangement of randomly positioned words, where the most important words are bigger than the others.  Word clouds visually represent the frequency or importance of a word in a given text.   As you can see in President Obama's Inauguration speech that someone created a word cloud from.  Example:  President Obama's Inauguration Speech Created from Wordle

Word clouds can be used for educational and fun purposes.  You can place them on your blog, website, social networking site.  You can also print them automatically onto items: a great idea for making custom gifts - printing on T-shirts.   They are a fantastic tool to summarize large documents (reports, speeches, questionnaires, etc), as well as websites.

There are various websites available on the Internet to create word clouds.  Word clouds can be created from sentences, whole documents, web addresses and on some websites even from tables.
